Jerry Garcia's 7-4-89 Deal Solo with the Grateful Dead – Lick 9 of 12
- Lick 9 is a very close repeat of lick 6, which started this solo. We’ve got a bit of a melodic hook over the A chord, where Jerry is focusing on the E shape of A.
- Over the C#7 chord, we’ve got an exact repetition of the last half of lick 6, where Jerry connects the 7th of C#7 to the 5th and back again, chromatically.
- What’s interesting is that Phil drops out for a few beats here, and it leaves a giant, gaping hole in the sound. Its only for a couple beats, but you can really hear it.
