Jerry Garcia's 7-4-89 Deal Solo with the Grateful Dead – Lick 4 of 12
Lick 4
- To start off this lick we’re in the D#dim chord and Jerry plays right up the D#dim arpeggio. Then he does this cool little move where he connects the C note to C#, which is the 3rd of A (14th fret b String).
- After that we have another lick that similar to the pedal steel phrase we talked about in lick 3, based on the A shape of the A Chord.
- Over the G and D chords, Jerry targets the A note (which our ears have been accustomed to) and the pivots up towards the 3rd of G(the B note, 12th fret of B string), and goes back down to the A, and then chromatically connects that to the 3rd of D (11th fret G string, F# note), before ultimately landing on the root of D.
